School Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteering:  Though most volunteering for the school happens outside of classrooms, there are opportunities to volunteer as chaperones at field trips and at events.  Please be advised that in order to volunteer at field trips, at events, in the classroom or in any other manner that will involve interaction with our students, you will need to be background checked.  Please contact the school office to learn how to complete a background check.


Position: Le Monde Sweatshirts Sales

Estimated Hours: 8

Duties: Manage the promotion, ordering, money collection and distribution of sweatshirts and other Le Monde swag.


Position: Wreath Sales for minor fundraising

Estimated Hours: 5

Duties: Manage the promotion, ordering, money collection and distribution of wreaths in November/December.



Estimated Hours: 3

Duties: Parent volunteers moderate, keep score or keep time during the tournament battles. They are only needed on the day of the battle which is about 3 hours long and usually on a Saturday.




Estimated Hours: 2-4 (Planning only, does not include hours volunteering)

Duties: Research and set up family friendly group volunteer outreach events in Portland. Past events have been; packing food with the Oregon Food Bank, planting trees with Friends of Trees, making sack lunches and care kits for the houseless with Blanchet House, and more. The coordinator would have a heart to help others and give our kids the opportunity to give back to our city alongside friends and families from our school. The coordinator does not have to go to every event, but a leader from our school must be designated. The coordinators main job is sign up Le Monde for group events, create a sign up and either lead or find a leader for each event. Le Monde families really enjoy volunteering together!

Oregon Battle of the Books is fun way for kids to get into reading lots of books and then “battle” on tournament day by quizzing knowledge of a set of 16 books they have read as a team. The coordinator is responsible for organizing the tournament, registering the school with the state of Oregon and registering teams in the fall. The tournament happens in February. The coordinator is in charge on tournament day and the parent volunteers that help run the event. Parent volunteers moderate, keep score or keep time during the tournament battles. They are only needed on the day of the battle which is about 3 hours long and usually on a Saturday. There are two divisions, elementary 3-5th grade and middle school 6-8th grade. Both have their own tournament.

Duties: Coordinate the Science Fair. This includes promoting the Fair at school and in classrooms (with other volunteers), coordinating with reviewers, teachers and school, receiving proposals and assigning them to reviewers. On the day of the Science Fair, oversee the Fair set up and tear down, sign certificates of participation. There is a manual in place for the Coordinator to follow and all the pieces for the Fair are ready to use, just dates and times need to be updated yearly.


Estimated Hours: 1-2 hrs monthly

Duties: We are looking for someone who would enjoy supporting the LMPC by taking minutes at meetings and posting all communications via the website, email and Facebook page. We use, MailChimp and have a FaceBook page to communicate to families at Le Monde. You do not need experience with these platforms in order to do this, although it is a plus. Estimated Hours: 1-2 hrs monthly

Duties: Promote the Staff Snack program to the community. Find out what snacks are needed/loved by staff and make sure there is enough coffee and tea for the staff. The signup genius is already created. The bulk of the work would be promoting the program before the beginning of each month or as needed.


Estimated Hours: 1-2 hrs/event (at least 4 events/yr)

Duties: Set up and run uniform exchanges quarterly, TBD depending on Coordinator’s schedule. This person can store uniforms in between exchanges, wash uniforms if necessary and bring tables on exchange days.

Position: French Books Sales Coordinator

Duties: Selling the high-quality L’Ecole des loisirs French picture books. The school makes no money from this, though we do sometimes get some free books. If you are French-speaking/reading and would like to take on the task of collecting the orders once per year and then distributing the books when they come in (approximately monthly).

Position: SCIENCE FAIR REVIEWER (Parents with science background)

Estimated Hours: 6-8

Duties: Review submitted proposals from students for approval, and type up helpful suggestions and insights to be returned to the students to work on their projects. On the day of the Science Fair, review the finished projects with the students.

Duties: Maintain database for the Family Directory. Create PDF to email out to parents the first week of October. Experience with databases or MailChimp helpful, but not necessary. The database needs to be updated in June, before new kindergarden parents sign up. The bulk of the time spent working on the FD is in September and the 1st week of October.
