Le Monde Families Making a Difference With Oregon Food Bank

Le Monde family volunteers coming in hot again at the Oregon Food Bank last Saturday, December 8th!  Our numbers were super strong (50 plus) with the enthusiasm and work ethic showing for the entire two and a half hours!  Even our youngest volunteers were scooping that blueberry granola until the very end.

The music was rocking.  I noticed the buzz reach a fever pitch about half way through – parents were chatting and singing, kids were swaying their hips and bobbing their heads, and everyone was working hard to get through 8,290 pounds of granola which we unpacked and repackaged!  Every table went through all their boxes – we got the job done!  Which in real life terms looks like 6,903 meals created.  That’s 76 meals per volunteer.   Each person at this event made a really big difference in our community in a very short amount of time.

You all are such a pleasure to work with, to give back with.  Thank you so much for generously giving your time and efforts, and for teaching your children to do the same.  I’m really wearing my heart on my sleeve for this community!  Happy Holidays everyone; I hope to see you all very soon in the new year.  Let’s make a commitment to keep stepping up where we are needed in 2019.

Map testing

Adaptive test, adapts questions being asked based on how child is answering questions. ie. If child is getting many questions correct, the test will adapt to start asking harder questions to assess the child’s level.

No time limit while testing which helps kids not feel test anxiety

The results of the test are immediate. Helps teachers know where their students are at and helps them develop their lesson plans.

Deep Gratitude After The Free Hot Soup Event

Wow. Just wow.  Le Monde families came together for this really meaningful event and totally rocked it! The hustle that I witnessed from our kids who prepped at least 150 sandwiches in less than an hour was inspiring.  Thank you to Cookshop for generously giving us the space to make this happen. The kind offering from the children who volunteered as servers at the event was sincere and left me (and everyone else) glowing. And you parents! – The support and guidance that I am sure you offer daily to your young ones was really shining through.  It was a true team effort.  To see the genuine appreciation on people’s faces and hear some very heart felt comments from the people we were helping has really connected me to this experience.  It made me want to do more, and I’m hearing that many of you feel the same!

Together we made an impact – we helped approximately 75 people avoid hunger for at least one night.  Jennifer Skyler, the lead for the dinner at this event and founder of the non-profit, Beautiful Portland, poured her soul into making an amazing burrito bar for all these people and there was enough for some to take away to give to their family members and friends who could not mobilize on this chilly night.  Many tucked away extra sandwiches, bananas, and some seriously gourmet ginger molasses cookies that were created and donated by Le Monde parent, Meredith Mortensen.  Free Hot Soup! is at Director’s Park year around, Monday through Friday at 6pm, serving up food until everyone there has been served.  Please reach out to me if you would like to donate or work with the organization; what they do is really amazing and they can use more help and resources.

With deep gratitude in my heart, I want to say that I am so blessed to be a part of Le Monde’s thriving, beautiful community.  Keep up the work that you do with commitment and compassion.

Happy Thanksgiving to all you givers!
