Introductions of attending parents
Updates

Family Directory- Occupation, Company, and Website fields were added; when the fields are populated by enough parents, they will be added to the directory to allow parents to search under these fields for networking. Parents suggested adding more options under French proficiency (e.g. conversational, elementary, intermediate). It was also suggested to get the Directory out sooner at the beginning of the year. An asterisk will be added to clarify for parents how the family directory will be distributed by Le Monde Parents.

Carpooling- Address field was changed to an “Address, Neighborhood, or Quadrant” field, and it was made a required field so parents can connect with other parents nearby for potential car pool.

1st Friday Coffee-This is a monthly event, hosted by LeMonde Parents. September and October had a good turn out of parents. There were suggestions to have a coffee date on the 1st day of school next year. Next coffee date is Friday, November 6th.

Website Issues-David has resolved several issues and upgraded the website. Parent group had consensus to not renew the .com website since it was only redirecting to the .org site.

K Playdates- Feedback from Kinder parents was positive. LeMonde Parents will plan for summer playdates for next year. Preference is for 3 playdates next year, with 2 in the summer and one on Sept 18, 2016.

Science Fair

Planning is still ongoing. The Fair is expected to take place in February 2016. In November, science students from a local high school will review the 3rd and 4th graders proposals to provide guidance as needed. Then students will create their exhibits and show them. The fair will not have judging, rather exhibits will reviewed for specific criteria and students will be given certificates or prizes.

french culture and parent education

Parents identified desire for more culture and education events. Parents reminded that they are welcome to take the lead on creating an event and LeMonde Parents will assist with emailing announcements, etc. Some ideas that were mentioned included informal parent group using french conversation, reviewing common french words and phrases for parents to use at home with kids, and french cooking event hosted by a parent pastry chef.

spring potluck 2016

Feedback from parents who attended the Fall Potluck at Laurelhurst Park was that it felt too close to the Blue Lake Potluck hosted by LeMonde School. Parent group voted to change the timing of Potluck to Spring, starting this year.

Kristen agrees to look at venues at Washington Park ($118) and Wallace Park ($63). Reservations for parks starts February 2016 so funds to rent will need to be in place by then.

social activities via forum or more organized events

Parents reminded that the Parent Forum is a great place to post informal meet ups, gatherings and other community building events. One parent discussed having a parent volunteer for onsight childcare during parent conferences. Issues with liability and licensure came up as potential barriers to this.
